Downloading videos files from Spiideo - how does it work?

✋ First of all, to download a game use the quick option called "predefined-download". On the other hand, users with the PRO PLUS subscription can use a "custom-download" that is of great help when working with recordings of your training sessions for example. Read more about how both options differ and work in this article.

  1. Predefined download

  2. Custom download - only available for PRO PLUS subscription 💠

  3. Custom area autofollow download - only available for PRO PLUS subscription 💠

1. Predefined download

💡 A predefined download is a standalone mp4 (H264) file of the full recording in which the actions are captured by Spiideo's Autofollow technology.

⏩ The fast way

Activate the creation of a predefined download file (Autofollow) for your game when starting the recording. Simply toggle on the "Download" option in the "Start new recording" screen. This will speed up the production of the downloadable file and save time.

These are the steps to get a predefined download after the game is over:

  • Open the recording/game

  • Open Download links

  • Click Autofollow to download the file

    ↪️ or

  • Create predefined video file for download

    • and Click Autofollow to download the file

Predefined download

➡️ The standard way

You can always create a predefined video file for download after the game is over. The time it takes to produce the video may vary, but normally it is ready 20 minutes after the game if you activate the download option when you start the recording. For a full 90 minutes soccer game, the size of the produced video files is between 6-10GB.

Worth to know about how this works in general

By selecting this option standalone video file will be produced while the recording is ongoing. The video file will be created using an "Autofollow" view (tracking the game, zooming in/out, following the play) from the Virtual Panorama, i.e. from the long end of the field/pitch. If you have additional angles at your pitch (e.g. behind the goal), these will also be produced as standalone files available for download.

Note: When using Predefined downloads, you always get the entire recording (with Autofollow) as a standalone file.

💁 When to use the predefined download?

If you wish to use the Spiideo video footage in other tools that you have in your process (e.g Sportscode, Dartfish, Interplay etc), the "predefined" downloads give you a standalone file very quickly.

2. Custom download (Available for: Spiideo Perform PRO PLUS subscription)

💡 A custom download is a standalone mp4 (H264) file showing the area and period of the recording, you want to focus on. Those files can capture a fixed view as well as use the Autofollow options.

Tip: Using goal cameras on a field will allow you to use this feature from their angle as well

What to do with custom downloads?

Sometimes you want to focus on some parts of the game and only on a certain part of the pitch. This can be done by using Custom downloads. Here you can trim the file to start and end at any time in the recording. In addition, you can select to turn Autofollow on or off (the View option). When it is on, you can select between a "Standard" type of Autofollow, or a tactical "All Players" Autofollow (where all players visible, except goalkeepers). You can also download views from other cameras, like goal cams, by selecting them on the video player then creating the download.

💁 Best practice:

To create the most custom video, select the View "Fixed" and pan/zoom in the video to the particular area you wish to create a video.

These are the steps to create a custom download:

  • Open the recording/game

  • Open Download links

  • Click on Create a new downloadable file

Custom download

Steps shown on the image:

  1. Name the file

  2. Select the View

  3. Choose Time Range

  4. Adjust time range if needed

  5. Create

⏳ Tip: The time it takes to produce the video is the same time as the length of the clip (+ 5 minutes).

ℹ️ Note: Please note, that when using a PC with Windows, some video player software may have problems playing the videos you download while they are produced. If that is the case, you can try and turn off the "Download During Processing" option.

3. Custom area with autofollow (Available for: Spiideo Perform PRO PLUS subscription)

This feature allows you to "tell" which area of the playing surface you want the Autofollow to track. You are able to draw the Active Area directly on the field/court/rink and download that video segment as an MP4. The Autofollow tracks everything in the Active Area and will ignore everything else (like magic 🧙‍♀️).

Tip: Using goal cameras on a field will allow you to use this feature from the angle behind the goals as well.

📝 Some common use-cases:

  • Warm-up / passing drills / shooting drills

  • Possession drills

  • Player specific training such as Goalkeeper training

  • Small sided or small group play on a portion of the field - especially when there are other players behind the goals

See how it works! 👇

  • When creating a custom downloadable file, select Custom Area

  • Click the area icon to designate the Active area

  • Select the time range

  • Click Create to generate the downloadable file
