Sequenced tagging helps you capture events and add detail in a consistent order. Set up a sequence of tag panels, then follow those panels as you tag your recording, without manually switching between them each time.
Please note that Sequenced Tagging is an add-on that is part of the Analysis+ package. To purchase it, speak to your Customer Success Manager.
What Is Sequenced Tagging?
A tagging sequence starts with an event and automatically guides you through panels where you can add descriptive labels.
For example, you could create a sequence that lets you:
Select Defensive transition to tag an event.
Move to a cause panel.
Select Loss of possession to describe the event.
Move to a zone panel.
Select the Zone where the ball was lost.
Move to an outcome panel.
Select the Outcome of the event.
The label adds detail to the original event rather than creating a separate event on the timeline. This is an example of a sequence you could configure, not a predefined template.
How Is It Different from Two-Level Tagging?
Two-level tagging lets you add labels to a main event. Sequenced tagging builds on that workflow by guiding you through a predefined order of tag panels. Use it when you want to follow the same coding process for repeated events and keep the information you capture consistent.
Set Up a Tagging Sequence
If you want to deep-dive into tags and tag panels before setting up your sequence tags, see Tagging in Spiideo Perform.
Step One: Plan Your Event and Labels
Decide which tag should start the sequence and what information you want to capture. List the panels you need and the order they should appear in. A good sequence follows the event as it unfolds, from what triggered it to how it ended.
Example: Defensive Transition → Cause → Zone → Outcome
Step Two: Edit the Starting Tag
In your tag panels, open the editing options for the tag that should start the sequence. You'll find your available tag panels and tags under the 'Tag Panels' tab.
To start editing a tag:
Locate the tag panel containing the tag/s you want to use to start your sequence.
Hover over the tag you want to start the sequence and click the pencil icon.
Step Three: Configure the Panel Order
Set up the sequence of panels associated with that tag in the order you want to use them.
In this article, we’ll use four tag panels as an example:
Phase of play → Cause → Zone → Outcome
Phase of play: the type of situation.
Cause: what started the event.
Zone: where on the pitch the event happened.
Outcome: how the event ended.
To configure the panel order:
Select the tag you want to start the sequence.
Click the '+' icon to add the panel that should follow the starting tag. By default, the first tag panel in alphabetical order is selected.
To swap the next tag panel in the sequence for a different one, click the drop-down menu and click on another tag panel.
Please note that all tag panels in a sequence must have the same sharing settings. If your starting tag panel isn’t shared with any groups, you can only add tag panels that also aren’t shared. If it is shared with a group, every other tag panel in the sequence must be shared with the same group.
You can choose when the app automatically switches to the next tag panel in the sequence: after a single tag, or after multiple tags.
Click 'One' if each event only needs one tag, or 'Multiple' if you want to add several tags before moving on.
Click and drag the tag panels using the '⠿' icon to adjust the order.
Click on the 'X' icon to remove a tag panel from the sequence.
Tags that are part of a sequence are marked with the sequence icon next to the tag count
Use Your Sequence on a Recording
When you've configured your sequence, start and open a recording. Follow the panels and add the relevant labels.
To use your sequence during a recording:
Open the recording you want to tag in Spiideo Perform.
Open the tag panel containing your sequence's starting tag.
Click a tag when the event occurs.
Follow the configured panels and select the labels that describe the event.
Once you’ve selected all relevant tags, click 'Done'.
If you selected the wrong tag or moved on too quickly and want to correct it, click the anti-clockwise arrow to go back to the previous tag panel.
To delete a tag, click the trashcan icon.
You'll find your sequence tags in the same place as any other tag, just below the video player.
