Choosing a SIM Data Plan for Portable SmartCam

Find the options for SIM Card Data Plans in your Country/Region

If you wish to use your Portable SmartCam with an internal SIM card, you will need an appropriate data plan from a telecommunications provider in your country or region. Below is a list of recommendations by region. Please note, this is not an exhaustive list of options but rather feedback and experience of other customers.

1. Initial Steps and Important Notes

a. Speaking to your Data Provider

When selecting your data plan, there will be a number of options available. We suggest using the following as a script when speaking to your data provider:

I will need:

  • A 4G compatible data only plan

  • With unlimited data

  • That does not cap speed at a data limit

  • For a Cradlepoint router

If these points are covered when purchasing, you should have success in using your Portable SmartCam via SIM.


b. Inserting the SIM into your Router

Our Router supports a 2FF size SIM card (pictured below). If your SIM card is not 2FF, any mobile store can often provide an adaptor to compensate.

To insert the SIM, a screwdriver will be needed (preferably magnetic) to remove the cover of the SIM card slots and to secure the cover once the SIM is inserted.

Please remember: If your SIM is not 2FF size, you will need to insert the card into a 2FF SIM card adapter first, before injecting it into the router.


2. Select your Region:

Select your country or region from the options below for our recommendation for data providers and any special considerations


a. European Union

As of now, we have not received any information to suggest carriers throughout the EU will not support a data plan for your Portable SmartCam SIM.

Special Considerations when Roaming:

When travelling to other countries where roaming data can be used, you may need to adjust your APN. You can:

  • Find out which APN you should use for the country you are in, on your data providers website

  • Input the APN using this guide


b. Rest of Europe

As of now, we have not received any information to suggest carriers throughout the rest of Europe will not support a data plan for your Portable SmartCam SIM.

Special Considerations when Roaming:

When travelling to other countries where roaming data can be used, you may need to adjust your APN. You can:

  • Find out which APN you should use for the country you are in, on your data providers website

  • Input the APN using this guide


c. Africa

As of now, we have not received any information to suggest carriers throughout Africa will not support a data plan for your Portable SmartCam SIM. It has been found that most providers SIM cards will ONLY work in the country they are purchased for.

d. Oceania

As of now, we have not received any information to suggest carriers throughout Oceania will not support a data plan for your Portable SmartCam SIM.

e. North America

For North American customers, there are a number of considerations to be taken in order to ensure a smooth experience. Please read through the following:

Suggested Providers:

We suggest the following providers:

  • AT&T

  • Verizon

Providers we do not recommend:

  • T-Mobile (We have encountered issues that can cause the router to stop working)

Type of SIM/Plan:

It is important you purchase a:

  • Data only plan

  • For a Cradlepoint router

A SIM for phone/iPad usage can cause the SIM to stop working after some time in a Cradlepoint router. For best experience, use the script provided at the top of the page when speaking to your data provider

IMEI Number requests:

If your provider asks for the router IMEI number, it can be found in the following location on the router in your Portable SmartCam case:


f. South America

As of now, we have not received any information to suggest carriers throughout South America will not support a data plan for your Portable SmartCam SIM.
