Network Requirements & Firewall Configurations

Require for cable, switch, power supply, network and firewall settings to your Spiideo cameras

Each of our Spiideo cameras across our fleet have requirements for switch, power and network. Read through the information provided below and reach out to Spiideo Support with any further questions.

The cameras in the Spiideo system must be connected to the local network so that they can communicate with the Spiideo cloud servers. These are the most important pieces of information you need to know.

1.1 Ethernet connection

The cameras used in the system are high-quality surveillance cameras. Each camera requires one Ethernet connection each which also provides power using Power over Ethernet (PoE) technology. PoE can be provided either using a switch with built-in PoE/POE+ support or by a PoE/POE+ midspan connected between the camera and the switch.

Required switch & camera specifications:

  • S-Line camera systems work fine with PoE (15 watts per port) IEEE 802.3af

  • X-Line models require PoE+ (30 watts per port to each camera) IEEE 802.3at

  • D-Line models require PoE+ (30watt) IEEE 802.3at

  • A-Line models require PoE+ (30watt) IEEE 802.3at

  • The switch needs to be connected to the internet

If you are buying a switch make sure it meets the POE/POE+ demands/protocols.

Cables for the installation:

We also recommend that you use Shielded Twisted Pair (STP) Cat 6 cables for the installation. If you are installing in a lightning prone area, please use shielded Cat 6 Ethernet cables that are properly grounded and install other power surge protection, i.e. Axis T8061 https://www.axis.com/en-us/products/axis-t8061-ethernet-surge-protector

In case you need to use longer Ethernet Cables than 100 meters you should use a MidSpan, we suggest using AXIS Midspan together with a PoE extender.

Camera settings:

The cameras are preset to utilize DHCP so the network needs to support this.

Network setting:

The cameras should be put on a private network with an internet connection protected by a firewall. The cameras do not need to be on the same network if that simplifies the installation, but it is highly recommended as it will help in the future in case there is a need to troubleshoot.

Firewall settings:

All connections are outbound (to the internet) and the below protocols and ports needs to be enabled in the firewall.

  • https (video upload)

  • NTP (time synchronization: time.google.com)

  • TCP ports 7752- 7760, 17891 (camera management)

Tip: As long as you have an Internet connection and a firewall that will let through the traffic as described above, the cameras will report back to our backend when you plug in the Ethernet cable from the PoE/POE+ switch to the cameras.

Best practice:

Before you mount the cameras permanently, connect the cameras to a switch/router with PoE (Power over Ethernet) in your office for a Dry Run and make any necessary configurations to the firewall to ensure that the cameras can connect to the internet.

What we recommend

In order to get a good experience, you will need sufficient upload speeds from your network. When viewing the recordings live or afterwards through our app you will be streaming the content from our cloud server, this also requires a minimum download speed in order to get a good experience and avoiding lag.

The upload speed needed is approximate 10-15 Mbps per camera. So a Basic scene will need 20-30 Mbps and a Standard scene will require 40-60 Mbps upload speed to get a “live” experience. For viewing the recordings live and through the Spiideo app (streaming from our server) you will need download speed of 8-10 Mbps.
