The Spiideo Companion App is a desktop application that works alongside Spiideo Perform in your browser. It lets you save recordings and presentations to your computer, so you can keep analyzing when you have no internet connection, for example, on the team bus or at a venue with poor Wi-Fi.
In this article, you will learn how to sign in, make content available offline, and switch to offline mode.
Please note that the Companion App is an add-on that is part of the Analysis+ package. To purchase it, speak to your Customer Success Manager.
Signing In to the Companion App
Step One: Download the Companion App
The link that you need to download the Companion App will be provided to you by your Customer Success Manager. The Companion App can be downloaded on both Mac and Windows.
Step Two: Open the Companion App
Once downloaded to your device, open the Spiideo Companion App.
Step Three: Authenticating
The Companion App will, by default, only bind to the browser connected when authenticating. That means that if you authenticated with Chrome, using Firefox will not automatically enable the Companion App or the interface in that browser.
Before you sign in, make sure your device’s default browser is the same one you use to log in to Spiideo Perform.
To authenticate:
In the Companion App, click 'Sign in with browser'. Spiideo Perform will open in your device's default browser. An authentication code will appear at the top of your screen.
Sign in with the account you normally use, such as Google or Apple. Once logged in, compare the code shown in your browser with the code shown in the Companion App.
If the codes match, click 'Confirm and continue'.
If you did not start the request, click 'I did not initiate this request'.
After a successful sign-in, a Companion App icon appears at the bottom of the sidebar in Spiideo Perform.
Please note that your authentication tokens expire every 30 days, and re-authentication will be required.
Making Content Available Offline
Once the Companion App is connected, you can download recordings and presentations to use offline.
Please note that offline files are stored in the folder selected in the Companion App, in sub-folders such as 'games' and 'presentations'. These files are sensitive, so do not open, move, or edit them. If you change the folder in the Companion App, the offline files are not moved and will disappear from offline mode until the app can find them again.
To make a recording or presentation available offline:
Locate the recording or presentation in the recordings/presentations tab.
Click the '⋮' icon on the recording tile.
Click 'Make available offline'.
Wait for the download to finish.
A progress indicator appears on the item and turns green, showing 'Available offline', when everything is downloaded.
Going Offline
In offline mode, only content that is fully or partially available offline appears in Spiideo Perform, even if you are online. Downloads that aren't complete before going offline will only be partially available in offline mode.
Neither Spiideo Perform nor the Companion App detects automatically when you lose your connection. You must switch to offline mode yourself.
To switch to offline mode:
Click the Companion App icon at the bottom of the sidebar.
Select 'Offline mode'.
To return, open the same menu and select 'Online'.
Managing the Companion App
The Companion App window lets you manage its settings and shows how much storage is available on your computer. Low disk space may affect recordings.
In the Companion App, you'll find:
The Spiideo Perform launcher button. Click this button to open Spiideo Perform in your default browser.
File directory.
System storage.
Companion App menu.
Storage
This page lets you manage where the companion app saves its files and see how much space is available on your computer.
File Directory
By default, files are saved to a standard location on your computer, but you can choose a different folder here. This is useful if you want to store files somewhere specific, such as an external hard drive or a shared folder that others on your team can access.
Click the folder path to change where the app finds and stores offline content. Please note that this does not move any existing content.
System Storage
Shows how much of your computer’s storage is used by Spiideo content, other files, and how much free space remains. Low disk space may affect recordings.
The Companion App Menu
In the menu, you'll find the option to:
Re-authenticate: Click 'Re-authenticate' to share a new sign-in token with the app, using the same procedure as here.
Sign out: Click this to sign out from the Companion App.
Quit: Click this to close the Companion App.
Using a Different Browser
The Companion App only connects to the browser you used to sign in. For example, if you signed in with Chrome, the Companion App does not work in Firefox. We recommend using one browser.
If you need another one, choose one of these options:
Change your default browser, then re-authenticate.
Click 'Re-authenticate', then copy and paste the link into the other browser instead of signing in with the default browser. You can use this link to connect additional browsers or devices.
