Set Up Your Replay Workstation

A guide for configuring your Spiideo Replay workstation on site.

Setup options vary based on your specific sport and the number of replay operators involved. This article outlines the various use cases and how to configure each workstation.

Generic Set Up Option A: One Replay Operator & One In-game Referee or Official

  • Location: This setup is ideally located on the sideline in proximity to the field/rink/court.

  • Users: One replay operator and one in-game referee/official.

  • Workflow: The replay operator is the one who actively tags important events during the game and prepares replay clips for the referee to review. In the event of a review, the referee/official will go over to the dedicated screen and watch the replay clip.

Radio communication needs to be solved through a third-party supplier.

MacBook Pro

What do you need?

  • A laptop charger to keep your laptop powered on.

  • USB-C to Ethernet adapter for a wired network connection.

  • An Ethernet cable for a wired network connection.

  • An external monitor that is compatible with a MacBook Pro.

    • 120 Hz refresh rate

    • Minimum 1920x1080 resolution

  • An HDMI or USB-C cable for screen mirroring.

How to set up your workstation:

  • Connect your MacBook Pro to power.

  • Connect the MacBook Pro to a network using the USB-C to Ethernet adapter.

  • Run a network speed test here and ensure that:

    • Your upload speed is at least 25/Mbps.

    • Your download speed is at least 10/Mbps.

  • Connect your MacBook Pro to an external monitor using HDMI or USB-C.

    • If desired, connect a mouse to use with the external monitor.


Mac Mini

What do you need?

  • A Mac mini.

  • Two external monitors that are compatible with a Mac mini.

    • 120 Hz refresh rate

    • Minimum 1920x1080 resolution

  • USB-C cable to connect to the monitor.

  • An Ethernet cable for a wired network connection

  • An HDMI or USB-C cable for screen mirroring.

How to set up your workstation:

  • Connect your Mac mini to power.

  • Connect your Mac mini to a network via Ethernet.

  • Run a network speed test here and ensure that:

    • The upload speed is at least 25/Mbps.

    • The download speed is at least 10/Mbps.

  • Connect your Mac Mini to a monitor using HDMI or USB-C.

  • Connect your Mac Mini to an external monitor using HDMI or USB-C.

    • If desired, connect an additional mouse to use with the external monitor.


Generic Set Up Option B: One In-game Referee or Official

  • Location: This setup is ideally located on the sideline in proximity to the field/rink/court.

  • User: One replay operator or one in-game referee/official.

  • Workflow: In the event of a review, the referee/official will go over to the replay station, create the replay clip, and review it.

MacBook PRO

What do you need?

  • A MacBook Pro.

  • A laptop charger to keep your laptop powered on.

  • USB-C to Ethernet adapter for a wired network connection.

  • An Ethernet cable for a wired network connection.

  • An external monitor that is compatible with a MacBook Pro.

    • 120 Hz refresh rate

    • Minimum 1920x1080 resolution

  • An HDMI or USB-C cable for screen mirroring.

How to set up your workstation:

  • Connect your MacBook Pro to power.

  • Connect the MacBook Pro to a network using the USB-C to Ethernet adapter.

  • Run a network speed test here and ensure that:

    • The upload speed is at least 25/Mbps.

    • The download speed is at least 10/Mbps.


iPad Pro

What do you need?

  • An iPad Pro.

  • A connection dock, such as this one, for power and a network.

  • A USB-C cable to connect your iPad Pro to the connection dock.

  • An Ethernet cable for a wired network connection.

How to set up your workstation:

  • Connect your connection dock to power.

  • Connect your iPad to the connection dock using a USB-C cable.

  • Connect the connection dock to a network using an Ethernet cable.

  • Run a network speed test here and ensure that:

    • The upload speed is at least 25/Mbps.

    • The download speed is at least 10/Mbps.


American Football Setup

  • Location: This setup is located in a dedicated replay booth at the venue. It's not in direct proximity to the sideline.

  • User: One replay operator, one official and one communicator.

  • Workflow:

    • The replay operator actively tags important events during the game and prepares replay clips for the official to review.

    • The official reviews potential situations in replay and decides if the game should be stopped and go to review.

    • The communicator watches the game and provides input to the replay operator and official. The communicator is also responsible for communication with the broadcasting team and the official on the field.

    Radio communication needs to be solved through a third-party supplier.

MacBook Pro

What do you need?

  • Two MacBook Pros.

  • Two laptop chargers to keep your MacBooks powered on.

  • Two USB-C to Ethernet adapters for wired network connections.

  • Two Ethernet cables for wired network connections.

  • An external monitor that is compatible with a MacBook Pro.

    • 120 Hz refresh rate

    • Minimum 1920x1080 resolution

  • An HDMI or USB-C cable for screen mirroring.

How to set up your workstation:

  • Connect the MacBook Pros to power.

  • Connect the MacBook Pros to a network using the USB-C to Ethernet adapter.

  • Run a network speed test here on both MacBook Pros to ensure that:

    • The upload speed is at least 25/Mbps per device.

    • The download speed is at least 10/Mb per device.

  • Connect the official MacBook Pro to an external monitor using HDMI or USB-C.

    • If desired, connect a mouse to use with the external monitor.

  • Two USB-C cables to connect the monitors to the Mac minis.

  • Two Ethernet cables for a wired network connection.

  • Two external monitors that are compatible with a Mac mini.

How to set up your workstations:

  • Connect the Mac minis to power.

  • Connect the Mac minis to the replay operators' and officials' monitors.

  • Connect the Mac minis to a network via Ethernet.

  • Run a network speed test here on both Mac minis to ensure that:

    • The upload speed is at least 25/Mbps per device.

    • The download speed is at least 10/Mb per device.

  • Connect the officials' Mac mini to the communicator's monitor using an HDMI or USB-C cable.

    • If desired, connect a mouse to use with the monitor.
