Update the Software on your Portable SmartCam

Be sure that your Portable SmartCam software is always up to date with the help of the Spiideo iOS app.

The camera software consists of programs that instruct the camera on what to do, and keeping it up to date is essential to ensure the camera performs as intended. There are three ways of updating the Portable SmartCam software and they all require the Spiideo iOS application.

⚠️ It is highly important that the camera does not lose power or network during the update. If you are unsure if the power or network is sufficient you can wait with updating until you are confident that the power and network are stable.


Update the Software When Starting a Perform Recording

If you are about to start a recording via the iOS App you may receive a pop-up message about an available update. If you do not wish to update the camera simply click 'Update later'.

To update the Portable SmartCam software when receiving the pop-up message:

  1. If there is an available software update a pop-up message will appear when starting a new recording using the ' New +' button in the top right corner.

  2. Click on 'Update now' if you would like to proceed with the update.

  3. Toggle on the four required criteria and click 'Update Camera'.

  4. The update will start and can take up to five minutes.

  5. When the update is complete click 'Close' to finish the update.


Update the Software Through a Spiideo Play Account

If you do not have a Spiideo Perform account to update the software from this option is the one for you.

To update the Portable SmartCam software when logged in to a Spiideo Play account:

  1. If you are a part of multiple Play accounts click on the '☰' icon in the top left hand corner and make sure that you are logged into an account with access to the camera you want to update.

  2. On the list of scenes you'll see a red 'Update' button if there is an available software update.

  3. Click on 'Update' .

  4. Toggle on the four required criteria and click 'Update Camera'.

  5. The update will start and can take up to five minutes.

  6. When the update is complete click 'Close' to finish the update.


Update the Software Through the PSC Setup Menu

The third option is updating the software whilst setting your Portable SmartCam up prior to a recording.

To update the PSC software through the setup menu:

  1. Click on the '☰' icon in the top left hand corner.

  2. Click on 'Portable SmartCam Setup'

  3. Choose the camera and start setting the camera up as well as connecting it. When you have set the camera up and connected the camera click 'OK'.

  4. Once the setup is complete you will on the top of the setup page see an 'Update' button if there is an available update.

  5. Click on 'Update'.

  6. Toggle on the four required criteria and click 'Update Camera'.

  7. The update will start and can take up to five minutes.

  8. When the update is complete click 'Close' to finish the update.


If the Software Update Fails

An update of the software normally takes between 1 - 2 minutes. If it takes longer than 5 minutes the update is considered to have failed.

There are three causes behind a software update fail:

  • The camera lost power during the update.

  • The camera lost network connection during the update.

  • The camera lost power and network before the update had a chance to start.

If the update fails please ensure that the camera has power and a stable network connection before trying again.

If an update fails you will see a red 'X' icon together with the text.
