Before we start, what is a tag?

A tag is a timestamp in form of a dot on a video’s timeline. Such a timestamp consists of Pre-Roll and Post-Roll time which can be fully customised. Tags enable you to find key moments more quickly and share more easily. Tags enable you to create presentations that contain selected highlights in just a few clicks.

You can use live-tagging or tag post-game/post-training after a recording has been finished.

Have you created a tag panel in the web app of Spiideo Perform already? Great, then we can get started.

ℹ️ This article outlines in four sections how tags help you to highlight actions and moments, which you want to further analyse or share with others.

  1. Open recording and tag panel

  2. Tag the footage live or post-game/post-training

  3. Working with tags

  4. Further options

  5. Import tags or export as XML file

1. Open a video and your tag panels

Tag Panel
  • open the recording/uploaded video

  • select the tag panel icon in the top left corner

  • + add tag panels

  • select among different panels or deselect them

2. Tag the footage LIVE

Start a new recording and live-tagging will allow tag while training/game is ongoing. Each tag will be saved on the recording as a unique timestamp that will be visual on the timeline.

This is what "live-tagging" is for

While your team is playing the game you can tag while sitting on the bench or in the stands at the arena. Whenever something interesting happens on the field, press the button to mark this moment on the recording. As a next step, you can add the tags to a presentation. Share this presentation in a group with other analysts or present it to the team during halftime of a game for example.

Note: All the tags will be available for further analysis later on. Therefore you can add them to more presentations or filter for them by using the Data Explorer feature.

Tag the footage post-game/post-training

After uploading video material or finishing a recording the analysis begins. Open the tag panel(s) needed and arrange the proportions of the elements on your screen.

  • drag the double-arrows around (up & down, left & right)

  • expand the timeline by clicking the little arrow

Tagging post-game/post-training works like this

Move through the video by playing and pausing it or jumping through the timeline. The video player allows you to zoom in and out of the action as well as pan around the entire field, thanks to the virtual panorama.

Tip: Use Keyboard Shortcuts to work more effectively. Find them in your user profile and add new Keyboard Shortcuts while editing your tag panel.

Whenever something interesting happens on the video, press the button (use mouse or keyboard shortcut) to mark this moment on the recording. As a next step, you can add the tags to a presentation. Share this presentation in a group with other analysts or players for example.

3. Working with tags

There are a few different things you can do with tags while watching the recording. Probably one of the most important tasks is to add them to a presentation by selecting the tag and opening the small edit window.

Tip: Is a tag not covering all the time of action? No problem! Expand Pre-Roll and/or Post-Roll time by editing a tag.

4. Further options

First of all, each coach or analysts has their own way of tagging. Here are some other things you can do with tags:

  • manoeuvre through tags (select timeline of a tag or click individual tags within)

  • filter tags (use the little black funnel to open filter view)

  • jump from tag to tag (use black arrows at the end of a tag's timeline)

  • switch between viewing 1st or 2nd level tags

  • open subtags of each tag

Extra: Import and export tags as an XML file to use with third-party tools. If you export tags, it will download an XML file very quickly. Importing tags can require synching them on the timeline.

5. Tag import and tag export

Import external tags to Spiideo

Sportscode tags (codes and labels) can be exported from Sportscode and then imported into Spiideo via an XML file for example. The import is done via app.spiideo.net (not available on IOS). After syncing the tags (setting the corresponding start in the video for a tag with no start time, e.g. kick-off), they will appear in the Spiideo recording timeline in sync with the video.

This is how it works:

  • Open the information ℹ️ icon (top right corner) on your recording

  • Select Import tags and complete 3 steps

Step 1/3 ➡️ select files to upload

Step 2/3 ➡️ select one tag to synch all with the recording

Step 3/3 ➡️ move the selected tag to the correct position on the timeline

🎖️ After clicking save, the tags will show up on the timeline of your recording.

Export Spiideo tags as XML file

If you have tagged using Spiideo, those tags can also be exported as an XML file from Spiideo (in app.spiideo.net) and then imported into Sportscode (or other tools capable of importing an XML file)
