Get to Know the Encoder
On the first screen, you see:
The device's power status. A green LED means that the device is powered on.
The encoder's IP address. You can access the encoder's web UI by typing http://<IP-address> into your web browser.
The SDI IN status for all four input sources.
The '⌾' icon indicates that a source is connected to an input and is providing an input stream
'---' indicates either that no SDI cable is connected or that an SDI cable is connected but not providing an input stream.
System Metrics.
AUD: Audio level (decibels / dB)
BR: Bitrate (kbps)
OK means that the encoder is producing a valid encoded stream.
NOK = means that the encoder isn’t publishing a valid encoded stream (typically because no output is configured or active).
CPU: CPU usage percentage (%)
TEMP: Operating temperature (°C)
This is the 'Net Option' menu, the network configuration page for the unit. It confirms what the status screen showed earlier. The small padlock icon in the top-right indicates that these settings are currently locked to prevent accidental changes using the front buttons.
On the 'Net Option' menu, you can see:
10.2.0.54 (IP Address): The unique address assigned to this device on your local network, allowing other machines and video equipment to connect to it.
gw: 10.2.0.1 (Gateway): The IP address of your local router or network switch that routes data in and out of the local network.
sm: 255.255.252.0 (Subnet Mask): Defines the boundaries and size of your local network range (a
/22network allowing up to 1,022 connected devices).DHCP:
ON: Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol is enabled. This means your network router automatically assigned the IP address to this device, rather than it being set manually (Static IP).
OFF: Static IP (Manual Configuration) is enabled: The router will no longer automatically assign an IP address to the device.
Encode Settings
Head into the encoder's web UI by typing http://<IP-address> into your web browser.
Enter the username, password, and click 'Login'.
Once logged into the Limit 8 M4 web user interface, click 'Encode' on the left-hand side of the UI.
Under the 'Overall config' section toward the top of the screen, you can adjust the settings for all encoding inputs.
For both 'Main stream' and 'Sub stream', select the following:
Video Size: Auto
Codec: H.264 High
Rate Control: VBR
Bitrate: 10000
Framerate: -1
GOP(sec): 1
Sync SEI payload
For 'Audio Config' select the following:
Codec: AAC
Source:Default
Gain: +0dB
Samplerate : 48K
Channels: Stereo
Bitrate (kb/s): 128
Click 'Apply to all', and you should see a message in the upper right-hand corner stating 'Config saved successfully'.
Scroll to the SDI-n channel you are using and toggle to 'ON'. Repeat for the other channels you are using. Turn all other channels 'OFF'.
Click 'Save', and you should see a message in the upper right-hand corner stating "Config saved successfully".
Stream Settings
Click 'Stream' on the left-hand side of the UI.
Under the 'Overall config' section near the top of the screen, ensure all Protocols are toggled to 'OFF' under 'Main Protocol'.
Click 'Apply to all' and you should see a message in the upper right-hand corner stating 'Config saved successfully'.
Under 'Stream config', enter the Ingestion Point URL (e.g. srt://euw1.live.spd.ninja:45079?streamid=b33b8bde-5409-4d6e-849d-3837260b6cc4), and toggle 'push' to 'ON'. Repeat for the other channels you are using.
This URL can be found in the Spiideo UI.
Click 'Save', and you should see a message in the upper right-hand corner stating 'Config saved successfully'.
System Config
Click 'System' on the left-hand side of the UI.
Under 'System Clock', set the NTP sync time.google.com and toggle 'ON'.
Set the timezone to 'UTC' by using the time zone 'Atlantic Ocean, Reykjavik'
Click 'Save', and you should see a message in the upper right-hand corner stating 'Config saved successfully'.
